Interactive 3D turbine map viewer
We are pleased to share this interactive 3D turbine map viewer. It includes the existing Scout Moor turbines (blue) and the proposed turbines for Scout Moor 2 (red).
For a scale comparison, please see the header image above showing people standing at the base of the turbines.
We have used an open source turbine model so the exact design will differ from those already existing and proposed. The representation should give a reasonable idea of location and height, though it would not stand up as evidence in a public hearing. However, this viewer should assist you to explore how the new wind farm will appear from any vantage point in the area, such as your own home or favourite spots on Scout Moor.
The viewer has a fly through mode so that you can get a good impression of what the new turbines will do to the views travelling up Rooley Moor Road, from Fern Hill to Waugh’s Well.
It has controls in the top-left for navigation. If you are viewing on a touch device then navigating the environment should be fairly intuitive. On a desktop computer, use the following mouse controls to navigate:
- Left mouse : Pan
- Control + Left mouse horizontal : Rotate
- Control + Left mouse vertical : Tilt
- Scroll wheel : Zoom
Click on the map to view the latitude, longitude and elevation for that point. The data is also copied to the clipboard so that you can paste it into a document.
Use the fly through controls at the bottom of the map to view the animated trip along Rooley Moor Road. You can Pause a fly through, look around, and then continue from where you were.
If the map doesn’t load fully (sometimes the new turbines don’t appear for example), simply refresh the page and it should load correctly.
This map is subject to change as it is likely that Cubico will make further changes before the official planning application comes out.
