Richard Tice letter to Cubico investors and potential buyers

19 April 2025, categories: Net Zero, News, News Reports, Politics, Reform UK

We have just received confirmation that Richard Tice has written to Cubico and their potential investors as he promised at our meeting in Edenfield Community Centre organised by Danny Matchett and Jo Ash. We are very grateful to both of them for organising the event and for Richard’s kind offer to help us out in this way.

Although the Friends of the Moorland is not aligned with any political party (we have members from across the political spectrum) we found it refreshing to see a politician listening and delivering on his promise. Perhaps our own members of parliament could learn a thing or two?

The full text follows as well as a link to the original letter on Richard’s headed notepaper.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing following my recent visit to the Scout Moor area, where I met with representatives of the Friends of the Moorlands and supporters of the Say No to Scout Moor 2 campaign.

I was left in no doubt about the deep and widespread opposition to the proposed Scout Moor 2 Wind Farm and Battery Energy Storage Scheme, and the serious concerns around its environmental impact, risk to public safety, and long-term viability.

Let me be clear: Reform UK is fundamentally opposed to the Net Stupid Zero agenda and the billions of pounds wasted annually on renewable energy subsidies. We are committed to ending all Net Zero-related subsidies, including for projects already approved, and those like Scout Moor 2 currently awaiting approval. If implemented, our policy will significantly impact the commercial viability of such projects going forward.

Given that Cubico is reportedly in the final stages of a sale/investment process, we believe it is only responsible to inform prospective buyers and investors, including KKR/ContourGlobal and Qualitas Energy, of the policies of an incoming Reform UK government. We will also ban BESS systems as they are dangerous due to fire risk with potential for toxic fumes and contaminants.

Any buyer performing due diligence should factor in the very real prospect of future subsidy removal, as well as the increasing public opposition and reputational damage associated with these schemes. We will not hesitate to call out companies that choose to profit at the expense of local communities and the British countryside.

I would strongly urge all parties involved in the sale, to take our position into account as part of your risk assessment process.

If you wish to discuss this further, I remain open to direct communication.

Yours sincerely,
Richard Tice
