The Subsidy Clock highlights the obscene costs of renewable energy
As we wrote about previously in Obscene profits generated by Scout Moor, 2024/25 was a bumper year for subsidies reaped through the Contracts for Difference scheme. As a result of this one scheme, the public provided £2,242M3 for the privilege of making offshore investors rich. This amounts to about £71/second, which is the rate that the counter below has been ticking over at since you opened this page.
However, Richard Lyon has gone several stages further and published a subsidy clock covering the running total from all renewable energy subsidies. All data is sourced and updated continuously. This is a fantastic piece of work, providing the most comprehensive picture to date of the true costs of our renewable energy policy.
Richard also has an excellent blog called the State of Britain by Richard Lyon on SubStack.
