From the Telegraph article Ed Miliband’s net zero taxes on energy bills to increase by 60pc:

New figures from the Office for Budget Responsibility show the cost of subsidising renewable energy will hit £20 billion by 2030.

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) is an arms length body providing impartial advice to the UK Government, so its forecast should be taken seriously.

We are already paying directly through green levies on our energy bills and indirectly through higher taxation and increased prices of goods to support renewable energy programmes. Green levies are about £350 per average household. However, energy suppliers do not itemise this figure on energy bills. Therefore, few consumers appreciate just how much they are being charged to support renewables.

It’s much harder to properly assess indirect costs. However, as we discussed here and here, there is mounting evidence that the total figure for direct and indirect costs is over £2,000 per average household!

In these latest forecasts the OBR state that:

The increase is the equivalent of £255 a year per household, combining additional business and consumer costs.
